Nagios Monitoring Tool

Nagios is a very flexible monitoring tool.  It is open source and free tool; however, there is a pay for version if you are looking for easier setup or enterprise support on the tool.  Nagios can be a little complex to setup because of its flexibility.  There are so may ways to set it up that it can get a little confusing.  Once Nagios “Core” has been installed, configuration of the monitoring tool is done through configuration files.  It’s main use is to monitor the status of systems and services.  Once it notices a change in that service or system state it will perform an action (like send an email to you, run a script to restart a system, delete files over a certain date on a full drive, etc.)
